History
In 1928 two brothers, Myer and Hyman Levy
formed a partnership M & H Levy Pty Ltd and began processing imported
and local fur skins, operating as fur and skin merchants and supplying the
manufacturing furriers of Australia with skins.

The business began producing garments
manufactured from fur skins aimed at the retail fur trade. The firm began
retailing in the 1960’s by way of franchise in Curzons, McDowells and
Bebarfalls, which were leading department stores in Sydney at the
time.
In 1965, they began to manufacture
Australian souvenirs for the growing tourist trade and overseas markets.
In 1969 the company opened a retail outlet, Levy Furs, trading as a fur
salon in King Street, Sydney. On the redevelopment of the MLC Center the
business opened on the Gallery Level Centerpoint and traded there
successfully for the next ten years.
As a third generation of the Levy family,
Mark entered the business in 1965 joined by his brother Ross in 1969. The
business has prospered and today still manufactures the finest quality
leather and sheepskin garments, leather wallets, handbags and kangaroo fur
souvenirs targeting the Australian tourist industry. Over the last few
years, crocodile and ostrich farms have become a growing industry in
Australia and the company started, and continues to manufacture these
skins into various products.
Mark’s roles in the company have been in the
development and manufacture of new products to suit the changing souvenir
industry. He has manufactured and imported from Korea and Chine and
exported kangaroo leather handbags to Japan.
A new range of merchandise was recently
produced and marketed under the Australian Walkabout Collection logo.
Today the company sells under the logo Australian Walkabout Collection,
Nobelese Australia and Didgeriroo
Leathergoods. |
